Complexity, not contradictions

The multiple aspects of online learning speak of its complexity and should not be seen as contradictory.  When doing research, one must remember that students can only provide insight based on their own experience. They don’t necessarily know “what’s out there”. A majority will cite flexibility, independence and self-learning as critical needs. They want to learn at their own pace. Yet students often refer to isolation and loneliness as reasons for dropping out. The opportunity to be part of a vibrant community where they have to be active and common goals/deadlines are an incentive to collaborate and keep up with the workload will more likely help them attain success.
